"I love your 'The Path of Peace' CD so much I'm going to feature it on the Front Page of CD Baby for a few days. We're REALLY picky about what goes on the front page. We get about 150 new albums a DAY coming in here now, (about 150,000 total), and yours is one of the best I've ever heard." - Derek Sivers, president of CD Baby.
"Highlighting melodies that are so plaintive and mood-shaping, you would expect to hear them in a film score, The Path of Peace effortlessly moves through twelve mesmerizing tracks of new age piano. It is quite an accomplishment these days to stand out as a new age artist, particularly on piano, partially because of over-saturation of artists doing similar things, but largely because of the repetitive and indistinctive direction that New Age can tend to lean. Dowling, however, finds that subtle space between music that is relaxing and suggestive but also with enough personality and substance to be engaging and affecting. Steering away from the cliche application of arpeggios and instead, creating a liquidy, gentle and natural sense of flow and movement, this disc evokes deep and rich imagery, awakening the imagination and stirring the inner eye. With the same emotive and touching quality found in a piano soundtrack, The Path of Peace serves perfectly as a background for contemplative, reflective times."
”The Path of Peace” is an incredible collaborative project that merges the music of pianist/composer Ben Dowling and the visual artistry of Mark Wagner onto the first DualDisc of an ambient art series. One side of the disc is a CD of Dowling’s solo piano music only, and the flip side is a DVD multimedia presentation of the music and Wagner’s original drawings, paintings, and video scoring. Combining music and artwork is not a new concept, but this disc pioneers new technology in collaborative arts. The music was designed to generate an environmental space in the hopes of slowing the pace of people’s lives and providing a healing respite to relieve anxiety and stress at all levels. The artists envisioned practical applications “for personal inner peace in health, therapy, hospice, incarceration and post-traumatic care as well as, more broadly, consciousness raising for an increasingly sensory overloaded and warlike world.” To quote Dowling, “These are times when it’s vital for artists to consider the environment for which we create. This is a work about peace that doubles as a great way to get there.”

"As you've heard me say (many times) before, there are some musical collections that just merit going to the head of the stack, & Ben's superb piano and keyboard work (along with all the other players - check the PERSONNEL LIST, as it's far too long to itemize here) on this high-energy CD is clearly one of those! Truth be told, I haven't heard this much energy and life in an album since the glory days of some of his heroes - Zawinul, Hancock, even Miles Davis...

Think of your favorite indulgent meal. Does a glass of the finest wine to accompany your chosen dish enhance the dining experience? For many the answer to this question would be "yes"- and, if this is the case, the reader may begin to appreciate why Visionsound's inaugural CD, "The Path of Peace" is a special and, indeed, quite unique experience.
The publisher's name- Visionsound- is most befitting, for this CD/DVD package created by pianist Ben Dowling and artist Mark Wagner is exactly that: a compelling visual experience, through the imagery created by Mark, and the auditory bliss resonating from Ben's piano.

Keyboardist Ben Dowling has put out a seductive groove based disc that
is a fitting memorial to his inspiration Joe Zawinul. The music has an
exotic feel, particularly the title track and Medicine Man, which
includes excellent work by David Neal’s guitar and Bob Sheppard’s sax.
Some of the songs, like “Starting Over” and “Sarah Song” are more in
the smooth jazz format, but the textured piano and keyboards keep it
from getting too syrupy.
The percolating grooves set up by Satnam
Ramgotra’s tables, Will Kennedy’s drums, David Leach’s percussion, sans
bass, sets up a light and airy rivulet of rhythm that is quite
Zawinul would be pleased here.
"This CD/DVD combination is an incredible demonstration of how two mediums can come together for a powerful meditative experience. Ambient pianist Ben Dowling and fine art painter Mark Wagner collaborated on this incredible “journey for the heart , mind and senses.”
The CD features 53 minutes of Dowling’s incredible contemplative piano compositions. The DVD adds a slow paced presentation of Wagner’s artwork set to the music. The sound incorporates a 5.1 surround sound field to give this a movie score quality. It is an amazing production piece and something you will listen to and watch over and over again.

"One Disk: two experiences. The Path of Peace is both CD and DVD geared toward inspiring artists of all genres to create beauty of their own. Ben Dowling's piano music is flowing and contemplative. The soft melodic touch and pedal work gently moves the listener through nearly an hour of devoted focus on their own work of art. Meanwhile, the DVD incorporates Dowling's ambient surround-sound audio with Mark Wagner's original paintings, sketches, and chalk drawings gently swirling and fading in and out as the video plays.
Due to be released on June 12, 2007, buyers will be met with a unique event in music industry history. Wagner's original paintings and drawings are encoded with tremendous energy and emotional depth and should evoke peace of the artist and the world. 'The idea of creating something counter-culture and counter-anxiety is very appealing to me - to be part of the medicine,' Wagner said. In a world filled with violence, tragedy and ignorance, Dowling and Wagner have found a way to be a part of the solution - their own quiet spirits have moved them to share a peace that addresses the human condition and could be used in 'health, well being, family therapy, hospice, incarceration and post-traumatic care,' Dowling said. 'Art is the cure.' Peace be with you."
"It has become a stereotypical occurrence for many. Somewhere a cell phone rings and the battle is on to answer the call under any circumstances. We could be falling off a building, performing brain surgery or writing an article, but we just have to answer that phone. We have become technological toadies. Blackberries, internet, and Blue Tooth have replaced good manners and stress-free lifestyles. Luckily, a technology that actually serves man is utilized in pianist Ben Dowling's latest recording The Path of Peace. Along with visual artist Mark Wagner, Dowling offers a multi-media presentation using still and animated images and perfect piano that soothes the spirit. It reminds me of walking through an art museum with a very personal perspective and just the right music.
